Jack Bobridge Road to Rio

Jack Bobridge Road to Rio

By Jack Bobridge.

Wow, it's December already. This time of the year for most road cyclists is when they are just getting back into things after a nice little break but for cyclists who combine track and road, like myself, it's a hectic time of the year. I put in some solid road work in October and I have just completed a month long track camp and am now in New Zealand where I will take part in my first World Cup of the season in the Teams Pursuit. This has been a major focus for our male track endurance group and we are hoping for a good result here to lead us into the world champs in March and then the Rio Olympics, pending selection of course!

Before the camp, I was pleased to announce my signing with Trek pro cycling team which means I will return to Europe in 2016 to race on the pro circuit again. I'm looking forward to this. I think coming back to Aus and racing with Budget Forklifts was the best thing I could have done this year. It allowed me to have a quieter year, where I could regroup and refocus but also really enjoy my cycling again with a super fresh and fun Aussie team. I've had so much fun getting to know the Budget Forklift boys and staff and we certainly made some great memories on and off the bike.

I enjoyed doing a big block of racing in America, something I haven't really done before. I do feel though that after a year at home in Aus, I wanted to give Europe another shot and I'm glad that I am racing with Trek as their support and organisation already has been fantastic and I'm looking forward to working with them towards the Olympics on the track and also hopefully some nice road results. I'm hoping to target some time trials again next year and obviously would like to be going well for our Australian titles in January. I'll be using my turbine breathing device a lot in the coming races to help me achieve my goals!

So I will race the World Cup here this week and then return to my home in Perth for four weeks. Here, I will get back on the road and complete my final preparation for road nationals. From there, I will hopefully be doing the tour down under in my home town of Adelaide, which I will be hoping to get a good result in especially after my win in the first stage last year! That was a really special win for me and I would love to experience that feeling again.

Anyway, I better go. Between training sessions here in NZ we are kept busy with meetings and we must take every opportunity possible. To rest and recover. I'll update you on my results here on NZ and my road nationals/tour down under once they have been run and won!

Wish me luck,
Jack
